"This is the first collection ever to be published of all Kipling's 'barrack-room ballads'.
It is not generally known that the original title volume contained only about a third of the total number. That book 'Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses', first published in 1892, was for about two generations the most popular folk poetry in the English language; reprinted more than seventy times in Britain alone, it included 'The Window at Windsor', 'Danny Deever' and 'Gunga Din'. Favourite pieces were set to music, sung in the music halls, recited. In 1896 'The Seven Seas' appeared with further 'barrack-room ballads' and a third series about the soldiers of the Boer War appeared in the 'Five Nations'." (from the front flap)
Book is in near fine and dustwrapper in very good condition except some fading to spine of dw.
